Purpose

The purpose of this Forum is to discuss this topic in a free-ranging debate with expert contributions from all attendees, resulting in a collaborative publication on the following topics:
(a) incorporating the potential of forests to respond to change, based on their (phylo)genetic and functional diversity, into
(i) our predictions of forest futures and their impact on the planet (e.g., Earth system models) and
(ii) our understanding of human impacts and actions; and
(b) the contributions of EO to quantify and monitor change and inform models and predictions, actions and policy.

In doing so, it is important for us to put knowledge application first, i.e., the direction and priorities of the form should be driven by the interests and needs of participants who are using data products and algorithms to make predictions, design interventions, co-develop strategies, and so on, and those of us who are more in the role of producing data products and algorithms will respond to these priorities and requirements.
